One Reason Not to Write

I’ve been watching reruns of the Alito Supreme Court Confirmation Hearings on C-Span as well as news clips on various websites. I watched the recent Roberts hearings as well and was quite impressed with the way he answered questions. But, his hearings weren’t half as entertaining as these! Today Senator Kennedy and Senator Spector got into a little brawl [FoxNews.com Video] as Judge Alito sat back and watched from his front row seat.

What I realized, however, is that anything and everything that I ever write or say can be used against me if I were to ever be nominated for a seat on the Supreme Court. It gave me pause, but only for a moment. I will, however, be careful about how I use this blog so as not to put myself in a bad position in future situations…even if they may not be quite as important as what Alito is going through. You can read more about it, take your pick. [Google News]

Movin' on up! (Or down as it were)

In December I applied for a position that opened up on the LAN team where I work. I interviewed today and did quite well, apparently. They offered me the job and I accepted! I was very pleased to find out that I would have the opportunity to expand my knowledge in the world of networks and computers. It’s amazing how much we depend on technology now.

I’ll be working with some great people that I’ve already had the opportunity to get to know as a Zone Administrator for the section where I currently work. It’s also nice that I’m just moving downstairs , so I’ll still be able to associate with the people I’ve grown to love in my current section over the last year.

Gifts from Heaven

My two cute kids!My two children are truely gifts from heaven. We had our usual family night and we assigned our little boy Griffin to say the prayer. He’s just over 2 years old now (in the picture he’s 1 1/2 and Samantha is just over 3) and he’s always needed help in the past. Tonight was a major breakthrough when he said the entire prayer by himself. Granted, he walked all around the living room while saying it and the prayer was only half audible, even to his parents (although I’m sure his Father in Heaven understood every word), but it was very neat to see him grow up all at once like that.

Sami gave the lesson tonight. She planned it all by herself. She had visual aids (small pictures that she drew and colored herself and cut out) and she made up a story about a little girl that tried to get to heaven by climbing a ladder. In the end she explained that she couldn’t get to heaven by climbing a ladder, only by choosing the right.

Gifts from heaven, indeed!

Friends are great, family are wonderful!

I’m currently working on a video project for Chrysalis [chrysalisutah.com]. My good friend, John Orgill, owns his own business called Ortec Design [ortecdesign.com]. He has a wall painted green in the back of his office that we rent so that we can do some green-screen shots for this video. He’s really nice to let us use his facilities. And it was especially nice today because he had a loaf of German-style bread and meat that he was knid enough to share. It came as quite a relief after hours of shooting footage for a mere 10 minute clip. After the video shoot, my brother Rich came back home with me and helped me install some crown molding in our family room. I’ve been wanting to do it forever, but I’m not exactly handy when it comes to stuff like that. I guess I take after my Dad a bit, but I’m willing to give it all a try. (Except for plumbing which I’ve already tried and I HATED it!)We got all the crown molding up and it looks great!

My brothers are all awesome to help me the way they do! My brother Jason is the same way when it comes to helping me with projects. I don’t know what I’d do without all my awesome brothers!

Not Exactly Original (But Close)

As I thought about actually going to bed and getting some sleep this weekend, I did as I usually do and find just ONE more thing to check out before I hit the sack. I decided to google “Desultory Thoughts Blog” [google.com] and see if I had come up with an original title for my new blog.

As it turns out, there are a couple of other blogs that share in what I considered a seldom used word such as “desultory.” I found one blog called “D for Desultory” and another entitled “My Desultory Blog.” So much for trying to be original.
